Playing in the Past

Wednesday, April 7, 2021

7:00 p.m.

Online

You are invited to the fourth lecture in a series of alumni talks in celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the Department of Archaeology and Art History at the 糖心传媒.

Debra Trusty ('05), a lecturer at the University of Iowa, archaeologist, Classicist, and video-game fiend will speak about "Playing in the Past: Reflections from a Classicist on Playing, Streaming, and Teaching with Assassin's Creed Odyssey." Her lecture will make good use of Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Odyssey, a role-playing video game that was released in 2018. While the game itself is a fun treat, the "Discovery To" (released less than a year later) is an excellent tool to teach the general public more about the ancient Greek world. Join Debra as we take a trip to ancient Greece via ACO, arming ourselves with the textual and archaeological sources that inspired the game's developers and designers. She will also speak about how it has inspired her and her students to rethink the ancient world and appreciate the vast amount of research and data available after over 150 years of archaeological research.

This virtual event is FREE; donations are gladly accepted.
