In 1909, Horace Robedaux boards a train bound for Houston to visit his mother and self-absorbed sister, only to find himself fighting a raging fever and at the mercy of an icy stepfather. Horace’s desperate longing to make a connection with these estranged kinsfolk is a vivid reminder of the lasting heartbreak that families endure to survive in life’s ever-changing landscape.
