Global Scholars

The Global Scholars Program offers support for faculty engaged in scholarship or curriculum development that helps prepare our students and community for global leadership, citizenry, and success. The program is supported and administered by the Center for Innovation & Change and is made possible by the John H. Schroeder Global Scholar Endowed Fund.

Funding Priorities

Although any global topic will be considered, priority will be given to proposals related to:

  • Social Innovation or Changemaking

Additionally, proposals should:

  • Encourage or highlight potential cross-disciplinary collaboration between departments; problems are not solved in silos (joint proposals are always welcome);
  • Show how the project will help promote global experiential opportunities for students (how do UE students – current and prospective – benefit from this work?);
  • Include a potential ChangeLab course idea related to the topic. IE: What’s the public application of what you might learn and how can students be involved? This can be just a paragraph or two about a seed of an idea, or a fully fleshed out course. When the ChangeLab is taught or coached would be completely up to the faculty member. Don’t hesitate to contact the CIC team if you want to brainstorm ideas!

Selection Committee

The selection committee is composed of the deans of UE’s colleges, the executive vice president of academic affairs, the executive director of international programs, and the executive director of the Center for Innovation & Change, which administers the program. Prospective applicants are encouraged to discuss their ideas and budget questions with the CIC to ensure a final proposal is aligned with the selection criteria. Applicants should also inform their Department Chair if an application is submitted.

Current funding will support 3-4 awards of $4,000-$6,000 each. Awards may be used for travel, research materials, conference fees, and/or other related expenses. Award does not include a course release. A good adjunct / ChangeLab stipend to include in your budget is $2,000.

Application Submission Instructions

Email your proposal to centerforinnovation@evansville.edu and cc Robert Lopez (RL138) by Friday, May 16 at 8:00 a.m.

You’ll email two PDF’s.

In the body of the email, include:

  1. Name, title, email, college department, department chair

First PDF: Your CV

Second PDF: Your proposal. In  no more than 5 pages, your proposal should address the following:

  1. Background for your proposal
  2. How your proposal:
    • relates to social innovation or changemaking
    • enhances global experiential education
    • encourages cross-disciplinary collaboration
    • will impact our campus and broader community upon your return
    • ties to a potential ChangeLab project
    • addresses the UN Sustainable Development Goals (if applicable)
  3. Your proposed budget should include (range: $4,000 – $6,000):
    • Travel: airfare, hotel, public transportation costs and timing
    • Materials: conference registration fees, etc.
    • Stipend: you can include compensation for leading the project if your budget has room.
    • ChangeLab: A good amount to include in your budget is $2,000. This would cover a stipend for you and supplies for your students. It should be its own line item in your budget, in addition to your other costs (travel, materials, conference fees, and your stipend if you’re asking for one).
    • Other funding: description of any other funding you have applied for or intend to apply for to support this work.
    • Optional: student interns. Many faculty find they need to pay student assistance on the project upon their return, you may want to consider adding this.
